Frequency[edit | edit source]
Dolphins are first seen in the Pink Desert level, and are common afterward.
Appearance[edit | edit source]
They have a folded cloth head, and three, slightly-angled tails trailing behind them. Generally, all three tails will be the same length, with the middle-tail being thicker. The only exception is with the first carpet, who has a longer, narrower middle-tail. They are usually completely red, but will also glow with symbols when touched.
Behavior[edit | edit source]
Dolphins will often dive in and out of the sand. This, combined with their trill-like utterance, is the reason for their name.
Dolphins will try to lead a player - and lift them - to important places; in fact, they will often pause and wait for the player (or players), facing toward the player(s) and trilling at them.
Interaction[edit | edit source]
When near a player, they will often circle around said player, recharging that player's scarf. Sometimes, they will pause in a specific place, and lift the player(s) up when the player(s) come near them. Some dolphins that seems to be stuck, or frozen, will be freed if a player chirps at them. Touching a carpet (which usually requires flying) will make them glow, and recharge your scarf.
Named Dolphins[edit | edit source]
Longtail/Lorelei - The dolphin with a visibly longer, narrower middle-tail than the others. The first one you'll typically release; seems to be a sort of 'group leader.'
Frederick - Community name for a dolphin that, after being released, will carry a player to the top of a dune. Note that, if with another player, two carpets will come to carry the players to the top of the dunes; it's unsure which one is Frederick in that case.[clarification needed]

In the Beta[edit | edit source]
Aside from the longtail (who didn't seem to have a longer tail at the time), the dolphins were very different at some point in the beta - enough to be an entirely different creature. They had ring-shaped heads, and two tails that would rotate around each-other. These critters have been dubbed "squids."
